Multilateral Development Bank Reform
Bank Information Center: $15,000
Recommended for support of Trasparencia, which works to reform the practices
and policies of the Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) in Mexico, and
plans to focus on consolidating vertical linkages between grassroots groups,
NGOs, government, and the MDBs.
Bank Information Center: $20,000
For continued support of its Early Warning System, an information service
and empowerment project for developing country civil society organizations
working to address the negative impacts of multilateral development bank
projects.
Forest Peoples Programme: $35,000
To promote forest peoples' interests in international forest policymaking,
with a focus on the World Bank.
Friends of the Earth: $40,000
To promote policies and lending programs within the international financial
institutions that benefit people and the environment, are transparent,
and are open to public participation. (This is the second installment
of a two-year $80,000 grant.)
International Rivers Network (IRN): $25,000
To serve as principal NGO advisor to the Independent Commission to Review
the World's Dams.
Export Credit Agencies
Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL): $25,000
To expand the support system for its International NGO Campaign for reform
of Export Credit Agencies' policies and practices, and to make sub-grants
to help strengthen the efforts of the campaign’s developing country
partners.
Trade and Environment
Bank Information Center: $25,000
Recommended for support of the Global Legislators Organization for a Balanced
Environment (GLOBE), which works to conserve biodiversity by educating
legislators about the need to reform export credit agencies; to maintain
pressure on the World Bank to adhere to its own environmental standards;
and to continue efforts to foster dialogue with the World Trade Organization
(WTO) Secretariat on the role of legislators in WTO oversight.
Georgetown University Law Center: $30,000
For Georgetown’s Harrison Institute for Public Law, which works
with local and state elected officials to balance the needs of democracy
and international trade in considering the impact of globalization on
local communities and the environment.
Sierra Club Foundation: $20,000
To support the second year of its Responsible Trade Campaign, which seeks
to educate the public and organize citizens to work for environmentally
responsible trade policies.
