Fund for Global Human Rights: $100,000 For general support
of this organization, an intermediary funding mechanism which will facilitate
support for local human rights organizations around the world. (First
installment of a two-year $200,000 grant.)
The Foundation Center: $1,000 For general support of the Center, which seeks to support and improve institutional philanthropy by promoting public understanding of the field, for the Washington, D.C. community and the mid-Atlantic region. International Center for Research on Women: $3,500 For general support of this organization, which works to improve the lives of women in poverty, advance women's equality, and contribute to broader economic and social well-being, through research, capacity building, and advocacy. Management Assistance Group: $5,000 To provide subsidies for organizational assistance to small needy organizations. National Partnership for Women and Families: $7,000 For general support of this organization, which promotes fairness in the workplace, quality health care, and policies that help women and men balance work and family responsibilities. Network in Solidarity with the People of Guatemala (NISGUA): $1,000 In memory of Anna Banks Parish, for support of NISGUA's Fall Speakers Tour, which brings four representatives from civil society organizations in Guatemala to the United States to speak at churches, college campuses, and community organizations about human rights and development in Guatemala, and how U.S. citizens can help. The Potomac Conservancy: $2,000 For general support
of this organization, whose mission is to protect and enhance the natural,
scenic, recreational, and historical qualities of the Potomac River and
its watershed lands. Jewish Life in the Diaspora $382,000 The Moriah Fund focuses its support for Jewish life outside Israel on three distinct areas:
A. Promoting Jewish Philanthropy American Jewish World Service (AJWS): $125,000 To support its Jewish Community Development Fund, which provides small grants for Jewish renewal and human rights programs in the Former Soviet Union. American Jewish World Service (AJWS): $20,000 For support of its "venture" fund, which allows AJWS to initiate new projects and respond to specific international grassroots development requests. Jewish Fund for Justice: $20,000 For general support of this organization, which helps grassroots organizations work with low-income people to combat poverty and strengthens Jewish understanding of and involvement in these issues. Jews United for Justice: $12,000 For general support of this organization, which seeks to organize a visible Jewish presence and take action for economic and social justice in the Washington, D.C. area. Yachad, Inc.: $15,000 For its Faith to Faith Community Development Program, which provides free advanced technical assistance and a volunteer labor force to African American churches that undertake neighborhood development projects; and for its Jewish Community Education and Outreach Program, whose mission is to recruit and identify people to help with Yachad's projects.
Americans For Peace Now: $30,000 For general support of this organization, which seeks to advance the Middle East peace process through public education in the U.S. and Israel.
ARZA/World Union, North America: $25,000 For its work to promote Jewish Community Building in the Former Soviet Union (FSU), so that Jews there can identify actively as Jews while maintaining full participation in the general society. Bay Area Council for Jewish Rescue and Renewal (BAC): $25,000 To support the Harold and Selma Light Jewish Center for Human Rights, a project of the BAC, in order to maintain and further expand grassroots human rights work in the northwest provinces of Russia, and to support BAC's Climate of Trust program, designed to combat ethnic and religious intolerance and xenophobia in Russia by creating a lasting dialogue between Russian and U.S. law enforcement professionals. Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights: $25,000 Recommended for the Russian Lawyers Committee in Defense of Human Rights to advance human rights in the former Soviet Union through representation of victims of political repression, human rights policy development, and legal assistance to NGOs. North American Conference on Ethiopian Jewry (NACOEJ): $85,000 For continued support of NACOEJ's work in Addis Ababa and Gondar, providing children's lunches and educational programs for Ethiopian Jews who are awaiting emigration to Israel, and for its monthly food distribution programs for families in both locations. |
