Doctors Without Borders/Medecins San Frontires: $30,000 For support of its Emergency Relief Fund, which allows the organization to respond quickly, effectively, and responsibly to humanitarian crises based upon humanitarian and medical needs alone, and not on the interest of the international media. National Partnership for Women and Families: $7,000 For general support of this organization, which promotes fairness in the workplace, quality health care, and policies that help women and men balance work and family responsibilities. Potomac Conservancy: $2,000 For general support of this organization, whose mission is to protect and enhance the natural, scenic, recreational, and historical qualities of the Potomac River and its watershed lands. See Forever Foundation: $2,000 For general support of this organization, which creates learning environments in urban communities where teens, particularly those who have not succeeded in traditional schools, can reach their potential and promote positive change in their communities. Southern Center for Human Rights: $1,500 For general support of this organization, which engages in litigation, public education and advocacy, and works with other organizations and individuals to protect the civil and human rights of people prosecuted in the criminal courts – particularly those facing the death penalty – and confined in the prisons and jails of the South. Wider Opportunities for Women (WOW): $3,500 For WOW’s November 2003 Self-Sufficiency Summit, to bring together 75-100 community leaders from across the country to share their experiences implementing WOW’s Family Economic Self-Sufficiency Project, which seeks to change the national debate from one that focuses on lifting families out of poverty to one that emphasizes moving them toward economic self-sufficiency.
