American Near East Refugee Aid:  $25,000  For its Emergency Response program in Lebanon.

Bank Information Center:  $25,000  Recommended for the SUNGI Development Foundation, a Pakistani development organization providing relief and recovery aid to communities adversely affected by the October 2005 earthquake.        

DC Abortion Fund:  $7,000  For general support of this organization, which assists women facing financial barriers to abortion.    

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontiéres:  $30,000  For its Emergency Relief Fund, which responds to critical, yet relatively ignored humanitarian needs.              

Food Research and Action Center, Inc.:  $2,000  For general support of this organization, which works to ensure that the Food Stamp Program and key child nutrition programs better serve low-income families.

Fund for Global Human Rights:  $10,000  Recommended for Vision, a Pakistani organization that promotes the rights and welfare of marginalized groups in Pakistan, and particularly of sexual minorities, sex workers and children.     

The Gillen Brewer School, Inc.:  $7,000  For general support of this organization, which is dedicated to transforming the lives of young children with a wide variety of language, emotional, developmental, learning and health-related disabilities.         

Grassroots International:  $10,000  For its emergency medical aid shipment and humanitarian support of Palestine.          

International Center for Research on Women:  $17,000  For a) support of ICRW’s 30th Anniversary Gala ($10,000); and b) general support of this organization, which works to improve the lives of women in poverty, advance women’s equality and human rights, and contribute to broader economic and social well-being, through research, technical assistance, capacity building, and policy communications ($7,000). 

Management Assistance Group:  17,000  For a) the Karl Mathiasen Fund ($7,000); and b) consultation with Tostan and/or Advocates for Justice and Education ($10,000). 

MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger:  $10,000  For its fourth annual Chanukah-themed, hunger and poverty-focused educational newsletter to help disseminate its social justice message.     

National Partnership for Women and Families:  $7,000  For general support of this organization, which works to promote fairness in the workplace, quality health care, and policies that help women and men balance work and family responsibilities.

National Trust for Historical Preservation:  $2,000  For general support of this organization, which provides leadership, education, advocacy and resources to save America's diverse historic places and revitalize our communities.

New Israel Fund:  $1,500  For general support of this organization, which works to strengthen democracy and promote social justice in Israel through its four primary issue areas: Civil and Human Rights, Social and Economic Justice, Pluralism, and Promoting the Rights of Palestinian Citizens of Israel.                 

The Posse Foundation, Inc.:  $5,000  For general support of this organization, which identifies, recruits and trains student leaders from public high schools to form multicultural teams called "Posses” in order to improve access to higher education.

See Forever/Maya Angelou Public Charter School:  $4,000  For general support of this organization, which provides a holistic educational program for teens involved in the juvenile justice system.               

Southern Center for Human Rights:  $3,000  For general support of this organization, which engages in litigation, public education and advocacy to protect the rights of people prosecuted in the criminal courts and confined in southern prisons.        

Wider Opportunities for Women:  $1,500  For general support of this organization, which works nationally and in the District of Columbia to achieve economic independence and equality of opportunity for women and girls.
